clay

I am awestruck by the colours and patterns in the rocks here. Multi-coloured exposed strata, mineral fragments compacted, shaped by tectonic events. Bright orange, grey, deep purple. Grinding down the clay colours to make paint is a time consuming but beautiful process. Another alchemy of becoming. Using the paints on my body envelops me into here, a place which I love.

“When foraging, you will discover favourite materials and places from which to gather them, and this relationship enriches both you and the place. We are far more likely to protect the places where we know something beautiful, useful or dear to us resides.” Caroline Ross, Found and Ground
